  • Bergman tackled such serious issues as means for entertainment such as Seven Seals yet admitted to himself that his films were depressing
  • He would often right the general ideas and actions of a scene and then allowed the actors to improvise the dialogue because he felt that the scenes turned out better that way
  • He found writing the screenplays tedious but spent months thinking about the idea for a film

Fellini
  • He worked in the neorealism movement that dealt with difficult conditions yet was known for his portrayals of dreams and fantasies
  • He worked to show truth in his movies such as in 8 ½ through the struggles of life
  • He started off as a cartoonist and that adds to his use of dreams and fantasies in film

Bresson
  • He liked the actor’s performances to look raw and realistic, he didn’t want any hints of a performance
  • Cinematography was Bresson’s idea of communication, it was another language for him
  • In A Man Escaped he played with concepts such as salvation in a limiting and mostly materialistic world. He did this in several movies and some think it is due to his Catholic upbringing
